An application designed by WhileOnTheMove from Oulu, Finland, has been selected to compete in the finals of Contactless Intelligence Contactless & Mobile Awards. The international competition awards new NFC technologies and innovations in the field. The awards gala will be held in London on April 26th, 2012.
Contactless & Mobile Awards competition is held now for the fifth time. There are altogether ten different categories with 40 finalists. The WhileOnTheMove application, named Daisy, competes in the Public Domain category.
Daisy has been tested as part of presence monitoring in Helsinki and Oulu kindergartens for some time now. The project aims to increase time dedicated to pedagogic work and leisurely interaction with the children, while offering a more efficient and logical tool for presence monitoring in daycare. Together, NFC technology and Daisy have provided in practice new solutions for monitoring and log keeping that are better suited for daycare environment.
Forum Virium Helsinki has been coordinating the Helsinki pilot. NFC technology was tested in Herttoniemi and Tuorinniemi kindergartens in cooperation with the City of Helsinki Social Services Department, daycare personnel, children and their parents.
Both Helsinki and Oulu kindergarten pilots are part of an international Smart Urban Spaces initiative, which aims to produce smart urban services readily applicable across national borders. The EU initiative, funded by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, ends in June 2012.
