In this age of digitalisation, the sky’s the limit when it comes to the development of the city environment. Forum Virium Helsinki engages in constant international cooperation with companies specialising in different fields in order to build Helsinki into the most functional smart city in the world.
Building the most functional smart city in the world is not a solo effort. Instead, the aim is to solve the city’s challenges by developing new solutions in collaboration with companies and the scientific community. City development and piloting in Living Labs
Forum Virium Helsinki engages in Living Lab and developer cooperation in the Smart Kalasatama project, the Internet of Things Vekotinverstas (‘Gadget Lab’) and the Jätkäsaari Smart Mobility Lab. These city environment pilots help build future solutions and better services for Helsinki’s residents.
The Living Labs also include networks formed by people and creators. The aim of these activities is to also involve residents in the creation of a functional city.
Districts under construction serve as experiment platforms
Smart Kalasatama is being built into a resource-efficient district that combines renewable energy solutions, Smart Grid technology and Smart Traffic solutions. The district’s experiment platforms include Kalasatama School and the Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre, which is currently under construction.
Vekotinverstas is a low-threshold place for testing different types of sensors, bringing together different parties in the City community that are interested in the Internet of Things, sensors, hacking and new data collection methods.
In Jätkäsaari, Forum Virium is seeking new smart transport solutions to meet the needs of tourists, residents and commuters. The city district currently under construction provides an excellent framework for developing new solutions that facilitate transport and contribute to the creation of a pleasant and safe living environment.
