The Urban Mobile Robotics project offers a unique opportunity to develop, test, and pilot cutting-edge robotics solutions in the dynamic urban environment of Helsinki.
Objective
The main goal of the project is to establish a strong robotics innovation platform in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, with a particular focus on accelerating the growth and internationalization of SMEs and startups. We design and test robotics solutions that address timely urban challenges, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental impact. Our mission is to build a thriving ecosystem where companies, research institutions, and the City of Helsinki collaborate seamlessly.
Duration, Partners, Funding, and Budget
- Duration: April 1, 2025 – May 31, 2027
- Partners: City of Helsinki, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences
- Funding: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
Role of Forum Virium Helsinki
Forum Virium Helsinki is responsible for developing the urban testbed and implementing pilot projects in close cooperation with the City of Helsinki and other stakeholders. We actively create collaboration opportunities and foster an environment that enables innovation to flourish.
Throughout the project, we organize workshops, training sessions, and events to build skills and strengthen expertise across the robotics sector. We support idea generation and accelerate the journey from concept to real-world implementation.
By co-developing new technologies and testing them in a real city context, we help shape a unique ecosystem where needs, talent, data, and resources come together effectively.
Companies will benefit from participating in the project in several ways:
- Valuable proof points: Your company will gain credible references and real-life validation from operating in a complex urban setting. Successful pilots in Helsinki provide compelling evidence for international markets.
- Strong networks: Join a vibrant robotics community in the Helsinki region, including top-tier professionals, investors, and innovative companies.
- Capability building: Knowledge exchange and peer learning will speed up your company’s development. The project includes hands-on workshops, expert training, and networking events.
- Collaboration opportunities: Work alongside other businesses and research institutes to create and deploy new innovations.
- Growth & international scale-up: The project is designed to drive business growth and open doors to international expansion. It also supports job creation as your company scales.
Benefits for Helsinki
Urban Mobile Robotics supports Helsinki’s strategic goals and aligns with the sustainable development principles of the ERDF programme. The project brings significant value to the city by fostering an environment where robotics innovation can be developed and tested in real-world settings.
Additional benefits include:
