The European Commission has announced the finalists of the European Prize for Innovation in Public Administration. Helsinki Region Infoshare is one of the six finalists in the citizens category of the competition.

The competition, open to public authorities established in any European Member state or a country associated to the Europe’s research framework programme, seaks for the most innovative public initiatives in Europe. The goal of the competition is to reward excellence and innovation which has the potential to be replicated in other European contexts.

A panel of experts examined 204 proposals, choosing six finalists in each of the prize’s three categories of public initiatives that benefit:

  • citizens
  • firms
  • education and research sector.

The finalists were selected on the basis of four criteria:

  • the economic impact of the competition initiative
  • its relevance to challenges facing society related to
  • how original and easy to replicate the initiative is and
  • how the prize money is planned to be used.

Three prizes of 100,000€ each will be awarded per category: the winners will be announced on the 6th of June, 2013, during the Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE 2013) Conference in Dublin.
