This summer, the SEDIMARK data marketplace project is preparing to launch a virtual hackathon that invites developers, designers, urban planners, and data experts to explore the future of sustainable cities through the power of data.
Hackathon participants will gain hands-on access to decentralized data-sharing tools and real-world urban datasets, discovering how trusted data exchange via the SEDIMARK data marketplace can drive innovation in mobility, environment, and urban planning.
The Idea: Hack the Helsinki Mobility Digital Twin
The challenge will revolve around a dynamic, real-time digital model of Helsinki, using real urban datasets such as traffic flows, air quality, and public areas. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with geospatial and environmental data to co-create services and insights for a greener, smarter urban environment.
The upcoming SEDIMARK hackathon invites experts and students alike to engage with real-world challenges, using real data from Helsinki to prototype solutions that support urban development.
What’s in scope
- Integration and visualization of geospatial datasets
- Development of sustainability-focused tools using public areas, environment and traffic data
- Use of decentralized, trusted data-sharing technologies from SEDIMARK
Who is this for?
This initiative is ideal for developers, GIS specialists, data scientists, researchers, and anyone interested in smart cities, sustainability, advanced data ecosystems, or the SEDIMARK data marketplace technologies.
While the exact dates and format are still being finalized, the hackathon is currently planned for July to September 2025.
The registration period and asset preparation will take place in July–August, and the hackathon will continue in September.
