As online shopping becomes an everyday and routine activity for more and more people, the need to tackle last mile and last meter challenges increases. Even in cities, where services are close by, people want flexible ordering and delivery options and welcome solutions that make their busy everyday lives easier, often preferring to have goods delivered right to their front doors. Smart Kalasatama is Helsinki’s showcase of new, functional everyday life and smart housing, while also serving as a test platform for new services.
How to tackle the challenges of last meter transport services in everyday smart housing? Forum Virium Helsinki is organising a Home-on-Demand open call for experiments in Kalasatama in collaboration with SRV and Kone. SRV is developing smart living services for Kalasatama’s first high-rise building. As project partner, lift manufacturer Kone is offering developers access to the APIs necessary to develop autonomous transport routes in REDI.
The aim is to learn how autonomous couriers could address last meter transport challenges in urban everyday life and new living environments in REDI center. The open call is for an autonomous courier and supporting service design work. The service design work will focus on the customer experience throughout the entire service chain.
