Forum Virium Helsinki’s Annual seminar Open data, so what? proudly presents guest keynote speaker from UK, Mr. Charles Leadbeater. As a leading authority on innovation and creativity, he has advised companies, cities and governments worldwide on innovation strategy. His latest book We-think: the power of mass creativity charts the rise of mass, participative approaches to innovation.

Charles Leadbeater is an ideas generator and strategic adviser to corporations and governments all over the world. He is also former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s favourite corporate thinker. The New York Times voted his idea of the Pro-Am economy one of the most innovative of the last ten years.

He writes regularly for the Financial Times and has written a number of books including ‘Living on Thin Air’ and ‘Up The Down Escalator: Why The Global Pessimists Are Wrong’. His next book We-think: the power of mass creativity, was published in March 2008.

Mr. Leadbeater was listed by GQ magazine as one of the 30 Most Powerful Men in the United Kingdom, in 2003 Accenture, the global management consultancy, ranked him one of the top management thinkers in the world, and in 2007 the Financial Times rated him the innovation expert in the UK to follow!

Ideas generator and advisor

As well as advising organizations like the BBC, Vodafone, Microsoft, Ericsson, Channel Four Television and the Royal Shakespeare Company, Charles is an ideas generator in his own right. While at the Independent he helped Helen Fielding devise Bridget Jones’s diary. He wrote the first British report on the rise of social entrepreneurship. His report on the potential for the web to generate social change led to the creation of the Social Innovation Camp movement.

Charles has worked extensively as a senior advisor to the governments, including the 10 Downing St policy unit, the Department for Trade and Industry, the European Commission and the government of Shanghai. He is an advisor to the Department for Education’s Innovation and is a co-founder of the public service design agency Participle.

Charles Leadbeater will be the keynote speaker at Forum Virium Helsinki’s Annual Seminar Open data, so what? organized on Friday 8 April 2011 at Valkoinen sali (Aleksanterinkatu 16-18, Helsinki). The seminar continues our Open Up the City -topic from last year with Smart City, Open Data, and the Interface of the City as this year’s key themes. It is also celebrating Forum Virium Helsinki’s five-year anniversary.

The event is organized in co-operation with the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
