Welcome to Helsinki Air Quality Testbed project kick-off 5th October!

Helsinki Metropolitan Smart & Clean Foundation is a five-year step change project. The foundation’s job is to drive the change in the Helsinki region and the City of Lahti and make the area the best test bed in the world for smart and clean solutions.

Helsinki Air Quality Testbed (HAQT), one of the very first Smart & Clean projects, will set up world’s first, city-wide supplementary air quality sensor network to improve and extend the existing urban air quality monitoring system in the Helsinki capital region. Measured air quality data will be made publicly available in order to facilitate the use of data for development of new services and applications. The network will provide companies, city authorities and ultimately the citizens with more accurate information and forecasts on air quality. We believe more accurate information will enable various means and solutions aimed at reducing emissions and minimizing exposure to them.

We would like to invite you to the HAQT project kick-off on 5th October in Helsinki. The event will be held from 13:00 until 16:00 at Kansakoulukatu 3 (Helsinki Urban Environment Division) in Kamppi. Here, you will get introduced to the project and the concept of supplementary air quality sensor network. You will also meet the people building Helsinki Air Quality Testbed and many others who are intrigued by the possibilities of outdoor air quality information.

In the future, similar networks might be found in cities across the world. Join us and bring your ideas and expertise to the table: How open and more accurate air quality data could be utilized for new services and applications by your organisation or someone else in the Helsinki capital region, in Finland, in Europe or globally?

Program:
13:00 – 16:00
Welcome
Introduction into the HAQT project & supplementary air quality sensor network concept
Coffee break
Brainstorming session in groups
Group session wrap-up & next steps

The event will be organised by Helsinki Metropolitan Smart & Clean Foundation and Demos Helsinki in collaboration with the HAQT project partners Finnish Meteorological Institute, Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority HSY, Pegasor Oy, University of Helsinki and Vaisala Oyj. More information about HAQT can be found from project’s webpages.

Please forward this invitation to anyone inside or outside your organisation you think could be interested. Don’t hesitate to contact ville.miettinen@smartclean.fi in case you have any questions. Welcome!

Note: VTT is organising another event at the same location earlier on the same day about Living Lab Busses which might also have something to do with measuring air quality. Find out more about the busses and the event here – maybe you might want to sign up for both events.
