The objective is to perform a more comprehensive collection and analysis of the
data available from maintenance vehicles and the environment. This way, we will
be able to target resources better to where the snow, ice and street dust bother
the residents the most.

During the spring, Helsinki will be experimenting with new solutions in monitoring
and modelling winter maintenance and grit clearance activities. Combining various
sources of data will provide comprehensive insight instead of using individual pieces
of information. The data can be combined with the help of the digital twin of the
city.

The joint project by Forum Virium Helsinki and Stara, [the mobility digital twin as an enabler of services (LiiDi2)](https://forumvirium.fi/en/projects/liidi2-the-mobility-digital-twin/),
initiated an [open call for tendering](https://forumvirium.fi/en/liidi2-agile-pilots-call-for-tendering-now-open/)
in December 2022. The goal was to find innovative solutions for the analysis of
maintenance measures and circumstances. Stara’s mobile fleet and the urban environment
will be utilised in the pilot as an IoT platform.

The objective of the project is to also use agile pilots to develop a city-level
standardised installation model. Companies and operators could use it to effortlessly
install new IoT solutions in the future.

Ten applications were received by the deadline. Five companies were selected for
practical agile pilots. In addition to the feasibility of the solutions, the innovative
nature and probable impact of the proposals were also assessed.

## Winning companies in the LiiDi2 call for tenders

[**Wapice’s**](https://www.wapice.com/) traffic counting based on computer vision
and artificial intelligence helps analyse the impact of maintenance activities in
the urban environment.

“Wapice is a Finnish software company whose solutions are used by leading industrial
companies all over the world. We serve as a technological partner to our customers.
We also help them make the most out of the possibilities of digitalisation.” Says
Wapice’s IoT for Smart Cities Product Manager **Jari Kuusisto**.

The area-specific data on micro climate collected by [**Kaltiot**](https://kaltiot.com/)
expands the knowledge base for upkeep and maintenance work. It also supports decision-
making in production. Data collected – in particular at the turn of the winter and
spring seasons – can be used to carry out pre-emptive decisions concerning measures
and equipment.

In the pilot, [**SWARCO**](https://www.swarco.com/) collects local information on
air quality both manually by using the mobile fleet and with the help of a fixed
sensor. This will provide insight into the particle emissions generated by maintenance
work and optimise work planning and management.

“We focus primarily on traffic that has a significant impact on air quality. We
want to be a part of finding the solution to improving people’s lives and making
our environment healthier.” Business Development Lead **Robert Lang** says.

[**GSGroup**](https://gsgroupfinland.fi/) strives to model maintenance work phases
in a new way by utilising hydraulics and bus technology.

“We strive to make our customers’ operations more agile and promote digitalisation
through fleet management solutions.” Business Unit Manager Finland **Pekka Naukkarinen**
says.

In the pilot, [**Oinride**](https://oinride.com/) focuses on the analysis and visualisation
of the data collection and transfer protocols of the FMS and the EN-15430-1 standard
accessories of lorries.

“Oinride Oy focuses on robotics solutions in demanding environments. In this pilot,
we assess the impact of the activities of the mobile fleet from the point of view
of lifecycle management.” Says Oinride Oy Managing Director **Ahmed Abdelazim**.

Forum Virium Helsinki congratulates the winning companies and will be reporting
on the progress and results as they become available in the spring.
