Public Film Screening: Forget the Film, Watch the Titles.
Saturday July 21 19:00
You know what they say about first impressions… Title sequences can be engaging or wildly entertaining, funny, exhilarating, or simply drop dead beautiful. Moreover, they are not just an introduction for the movie, they are signifiers of contemporary pop culture and an art form in their own right. Since 2006 Amsterdam based Submarine Channel has curated some of the most impressive title sequences on what has grown into an internationally successful blog and dvd series. Tonight they will show some of the most impressive and influential sequences that have been markers for contemporary visual culture as a whole. See http://www.watchthetitles.com/

Social Cities of Tomorrow Sunday July 22 13:00-17:00
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about smart cities, in which new media technology is to make cities more efficient. However, cities are much more than a bunch of infrastructure to be managed as economical as possible. How can we make use of new media to make our cities more social rather than just more hi-tech? Four Dutch (urban) designers will present their work that aims to engage the public more deeply with their surroudnings and bring urban public space to life. With (amongst others) The Mobile City  and Hubbub.

Location: World Design Capital Helsinki Pavillion, Ullanlinnankatu 2-4 (between the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum).

Full program will be published shortly on http://www.virtueelplatform.nl/dutcheculturedays as well as on the WDCH-website. Times mentioned here are provisionally. Please check our website for final program.
